The blue substance Coyote makes and uses to bounce around after the Road Runner seems to have many of the characteristics of Flubber, a substance Professor Ned Brainard (Fred MacMurray) creates in The Absent Minded Professor (1961), and continues to experiment with in Son of Flubber (1962). This short came out just a few years after those movies.
The opening credits music includes a horn element, likely a nod to the popular sounds of the Herb Alpert Tijuana Brass and fellow musician Sergio Mendes.
The blue rubbery invention also resembles the ubiquitous Super Ball, a best selling toy at the time.
