Growing up in the sixties, this is possibly the first movie I ever saw on TV that I shouldn't have. My parents were out so I switched between the two channels and landed on a weird public school where the kids were all manic, (apart of course from Zigo, who I think was dead) and a fresh faced young teacher who wanted to help but ended up being persecuted. It was a black look at mob rule, failing education and fear of the unknown. The grainy B&W served to heighten the mystery, and the ending solved nothing. It's only peer was 'If' although UW&Z didn't have the soundtrack or big names to compete. If it was an attack on "State versus Private" education in UK, only some of the message got through. If however it was a familiar situation in unfamiliar circumstances, aiming to unsettle and even horify, it was a resounding success.
The title comes from the last three names on the classroom register. It was made into a Cinema film in 1971.
