That Man from Rio (1964)

Goofs

That Man from Rio

Edit

Continuity

When Dufourquet swims to a boat near the end of the movie, a man aboard throws a kitchen waste on his head. In a next scene, Dufourquet's head is clean.
In the scene on the road, Adrien Dufourquet rescues Prof. Catalan in an Aero Willys 1962. But when the car falls into the cliff, the car is an FNM JK and not a Willys.
When Adrien Dufourquet's girlfriend is kidnapped in a slum near Paranoá Lake (in Brazilia), the door of the taxi is left opened and there are a truck and persons on the horizon line (border of the lake). When Dufourquet arrive at the place, riding a bike (in the sequence), the door is closed and there's nobody on the border.
When Dufourquet jumps from De Castro's yacht into Guanabara Bay, the boat used by the hitman in the subsequent scene does not appear in the background. When the hitman jumps overboard, seconds later, the boat appears again.
When Adrien is hanging from the tree after landing there with his parachute, the crocodile (or caiman) beneath him is seen alternately in water with an uncluttered surface, then in water covered with surface vegetation, then back again.

Revealing mistakes

At the hotel in Copacabana, when Dufourquet searches for "Mário De Castro" in the phone book, looking at letter "D": "De Castro, Mario", as written in English. In a list in Portuguese, the name would be listed as "Castro, Mario de", because for names with "De, Da, Dos", the preposition goes at the end when written in lowercase - You wouldn't call him "Mr. De Castro", but "Mr. Castro".
Adrien flies to Rio in a DC-8. After the plane lands, Adrien is at the Santos Dumont airport, which is one of the most beautiful airports in the world. The problem is that the DC-8 cannot land in this airport because the runway is too short for big airplanes like the DC-8.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

In one of the chase scenes near the end, the pursuers' car brakes hard, with the sound of tires screeching on pavement, but they are on dirt.

Crew or equipment visible

When the collector is murdered in his basement, you can see the arm of a crew member pushing the dog.

Errors in geography

When De Castro receives Agnes, Catalan and Dufourquet in the helicopter, this building isn't in Brazilia (as set); it's the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), in Rio.
When Dufourquet and Agnes go to Brazilia and stop at the police station in Rio-Petropolis, the policeman speaks in Portuguese that Brasilia is 50km ahead, but in fact Belvedere and Brazilia are more than 1,000 km apart, although the road is correct.
When the sun comes to shine onto the statues in the cave it is moving from left to right. In the southern hemisphere the sun is in the north and actually moves right to left.
