The Young and the Brave (1963)

Goofs

The Young and the Brave

Edit

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Regarded as errors: The Korean boy Han speaks English, but this is explained by dialog revealing he had attended a nearby missionary school. Also, Han knows the dog's name is Lobo by reading dog's ID tag.

Revealing mistakes

While trying to outdistance the North Korean patrol tracking them, the GIs find a wild pig in the hills, kill it and cook it over a campfire. In real life the smell of a pig roasting over an open fire, and the smoke from said fire, would surely have been noticed by the enemy patrol and would have led them directly to where the GIs were.
MSgt. Brent and Han are on stretchers, not secured in any way, in the back of an open truck used for an "ambulance" that just drives away at the end of the film.

Miscellaneous

When the helicopter arrives to rescue the three soldiers the helicopter pilot demands all three to get into the helicopter now that they are running out of time. However, the helicopter actually only seats two people so all three of them plus the pilot wouldn't fit in the helicopter anyway.

Errors in geography

While walking in the hills with his dog, Han comes upon a Gila Monster, a large poisonous lizard. Gila Monsters are found in the arid deserts of the US and Mexico, not in the mountains of South Korea.

Plot holes

There was no concern about water among the escapees, which is far more important than the food they do seem concerned about. Sgt. Kane, as an escaped POW, would not be sent right back into combat under any circumstance.
