The first cut of the film featured a pre-title sequence showing the first murder (which is mentioned verbally later in the film). For unknown reasons, this sequence has been removed and remains missing (as of 2008).
In the first draft of the screenplay by Johannes Kai, Selford Manor burns to the ground in the end. Producer Horst Wendlandt demanded that part be re-written because he was afraid it would cost too much.

The film features the first appearance of Siegfried Schürenberg as Sir John. He would reprise the role in 12 further Edgar Wallace films.
