After the inquest, Bill (Jack Lemmon) barges into the bathroom finding Carly (Kim Novak) taking a bath. At Bill's insistence, Carly tells the real story, flashing back to how her husband was shot. The flashback then dissolves from the husband's unblinking dead eye to the water drain in Carly's bathtub, a nod to the shower scene in Psycho, released two years earlier. Psycho's director, Alfred Hitchcock, directed Novak in Vertigo (1958).
