Plot Summary

A small picturesque town at the turn of the century. The conservative moral of the townspeople is shaken when they find out that the school teacher Franzén published his own poetry anonymously many years ago. At the same time he acknowledges his love affair with a waitress at the city hotel, Fanny. What is most upsetting is the fact that Fanny has a grownup daughter, Anna, with no known father. Could their poet teacher be the father although he and Fanny are not married? Written by Mattias Thuresson

Trivia "Lustgården" was the first project of Färgfilmklubben (The Color Film Club) created by Ingmar Bergman as an aid to his transition to / use of color film. Included in the club was the two cinematographers Gunnar Fischer and Sven Nykvist, the producer Allan Ekelund, the make-up artist Börje Lundh, the production designer P. A. Lundgren, the costume designer Mago (Max Goldstein) and the editor Ulla Ryghe. As a first step, Bergman ordered the whole group to undergo an eye examination at Karolinska Hospital. See more »
