The Innocents (1961)

Goofs

The Innocents

Edit

Continuity

In the scene where Miles is on the horse, he rides with and without a saddle in various shots.
Miss Giddens is wearing one dress when Flora bursts in to tell them to come see Miles riding the horse. When they run outside, Miss Giddens is wearing a different dress.
When Ms. Giddens goes upstairs to the bedroom, the candle varies in size between shots.

Factual errors

Nightingales singing prominently do so often in places with quite unsuitable habitat. European scops owl is heard calling quietly during much of the outdoor night-time scenes; it does not occur, and never has occurred, in UK as other than an extreme rarity.

Revealing mistakes

During Miss Gidden's interview with The Uncle, a clock can be heard striking the Westminster Chimes half hour. The Uncle goes to a mantel clock checking his watch. The mantel clock shows 10 past 11:00. The Uncle touches the clock dial, but does not correct the time.

Anachronisms

An obvious center back zipper in several of Miss Kerr's costumes, as well as in Mrs. Gross & Flora's costumes. The Innocents is set during the Victorian period, 1837-1901. Commercial zippers were not used in clothing until 1925.
Deborah Kerr's hair has been visibly 'teased' and lacquered with hairspray in an early 1960s hairstyle even though the film is set in the 1860s.

Boom mic visible

At the beginning of the film, when The Uncle walks from behind his desk over to the fireplace in his office, a moving shadow of the boom microphone is visible upper left of the frame.
