A surprisingly good quality movie for Romania
ersbel6 March 2015
A surprisingly good quality movie for Romania. Given the production year and the theme, I assume soviet intervention. The image is quite clear. The sound is at an unusual quality level even for a 1990s Romanian production. And the story, well, there is a story. Something also unusual for a Romanian movie even in 2010s.

Of course, the ultra nationalistic theme is there. Given the dress and accent employed the story is happening in one of the territories taken from the Hungarian Kingdom. Yet the Magyar accent is only associated with the bad guys.

Finally the film can be considered an example of black humor. With the finalized collectivization after which only small vegetable gardens were tolerated, you have in move theaters all over the country a movie about how the communists have taken the land from the unpleasant aristocrat and have given it to THE PEOPLE. Even if that means widows who don't have the power to use the land. Of course, all the names heard are Romanian names. Even the communist agents don't have Slavic accents or names although they were quite common back in those days. A reform made by the Romanians for the Romanians against the bad foreigner.
