Demara is assigned to HMCS Cayuga on 16 June 1951. However, in the Captain's cabin, there is a picture on the wall of Queen Elizabeth II, who ascended the throne on 6 February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI. Also, the portrait appears to be the 1956 Pietro Annigoni painting of the queen.
Although the film takes place in the 1940s and 1950s era, all of Tony Curtis's clothes, suits, and shirts are the slim profile, severely-tailored style of 1960, which was quite the opposite of the fuller-cut wear of the time.
Lt. Catherine Lacey (Joan Blackman) is supposed to be from the Province of Saskatchewan but doesn't know how to pronounce it. No Canadian would say, "SAS-KAT-chew-an" with the emphasis on the first two syllables and a flat, drawn out sounding of that first A. Canadians, especially those from the Province, pronounce it "Sis-KATCH-chewin."
