- Sam, the Duke of Yosemite, will inherit one million pounds if he can keep his temper in check. Thing is, he has to endure Bugs Bunny as his house guest.
- At Bedlam Manor, located somewhere in England, in the 18th century, Sam, the Duke of Yosemite, learns from one of his servants that his uncle, the King, has cut off his allowance, and takes his frustrations out on the servant for "not having his books balanced" by giving him the "nose in the book" penalty (slamming a heavy book on the servant's large nose). Just as he's complaining about where to get more funds, Bugs Bunny comes to the door as a representative for an unnamed company and offers 1 million pounds to a mild-tempered person - he picks Sam - then provides an anger-management catch in a document that he reads: If Sam loses his temper for any reason, Bugs gets to subtract from the balance whatever amount he thinks is suitable. Sam, anxious for the cash, quickly becomes mild-tempered and welcomes Bugs into his palace.
Inside, Bugs plays the role of an annoying house guest, seemingly to test Sam's temper and patience. At dinner, Bugs asks Sam to pass various condiments one by one, first the salt, then the pepper and then the olives. At first, Sam takes it in his stride, but it ends up becoming too much, so he goes into a closet to express his vexation, but Bugs hears Sam's grumbles and deducts £300 from his cash account. When the deduction results in another burst of anger, Bugs increases it to £400, which prompts Sam to run outside into the distance to vent his anger.
That night, Bugs keeps Sam awake with an obnoxious rendition of "I Dream of Jeannie (With the Light Brown Hair)" on the piano. When Sam bursts out of his bedroom and yells "Stop that music, ya crazy rackin' frackin' varmint rabbit!", Bugs deducts some more money. Sam asks Bugs to play "Brahms' Lullaby." so that he can go to sleep. Bugs agrees, but he becomes a one-man-band as he marches back and forth right outside Sam's bedroom door. Although this ticks Sam off even more, he is able to pretend that he likes it.
The next morning, Bugs hogs the bathroom, and Sam repeatedly yells at him to get out. The first time he does it, Bugs slams the bathroom door into him without penalty, but when he repeats the request, it costs him another £400 and 35 shillings. Sam angrily pounds his head on the piano in a way that makes Bugs think that the "noise" is actually a song. When Sam realizes that if he continues to lose his temper, he will not have any money left, he hatches a plan to get rid of Bugs and make it look like an accident in order to claim his inheritance. He saws a hole in the floor just outside the bathroom door and covers it with a mat, so that when Bugs comes out of the bathroom he will walk on the mat, go through the hole beneath it and plunge into a river below it. Bugs still refuses to budge from the bathroom, so Sam bursts in and pushes him out, bug Bugs traverses across the covered hole and Sam is the one who falls into it, cursing gibberish all the way down to the river. Drenched, he charges back upstairs and is told by Bugs that he can use the bathroom now, but as he charges towards Bugs, he forgets about the hole between him and the bathroom, and falls through it a second time, bellowing the same gibberish cursing as before as he plunges into the river again.
Later, Sam disguises himself as a statue knight in armor, ready to behead Bugs as he's climbing a long, winding staircase. When Bugs gets close enough, Sam takes a wild swing at him with his ax, but Bugs ducks and Sam loses his balance and tumbles down the stairs, cursing all the way. Bugs continues to write out deductions.
Finally, Sam declares to Bugs that he has his temper under control, and demonstrates this by allowing the servants to physically mock him by repeatedly throwing pies in his face, kicking his backside and beating him on the head with a rolling pin. Bugs confides to the audience: "I haven't got the heart to tell him he's used up all the money" before the cartoon fades to black.
