Comanche Station (1960)

Goofs

Comanche Station

Edit

Continuity

Riding along the river, Scott and the group pass by a hanging tree. This is the same tree that was burned by Scott in Ride Lonesome.

Continuity doesn't hold between two different, non-canon movies.

Factual errors

The Comanche did not wear the scalp lock ("Mohawk") hairstyle, and also, contrary to this film's location, were not present in southwestern New Mexico (Lordsburg).
In the final shootout Claude Atkins turns and fires. Then Randolph Scott fires and then there in a ricochet on the rocks in front of Randolph Scott well after both shots.

Revealing mistakes

As Ben and Dobie are preparing to ambush Cody and Mrs. Lowe, Dobie bends down near Ben The hole in his shirt is already there from Ben back-shooting him.

Anachronisms

After leaving the station, while Cody and Lane are talking, they ride along a section of barbed-wire fence posts.
The male cowboy characters wear full front button shirts which were not available , nor in style, until the 1920s. They are also wearing pants with belt loops (also manufactured later) as well as hats which were not sewn using machines available at the time.

Crew or equipment visible

During the final shootout with Claude Akins, Randolph Scott and Nancy Gates run and hide in a small rock cave in the hills. As they look out of the cave, a crew member in a blue shirt stands in the path in front of them. When Randolph Scott leaves the cave, he runs right past this crew member.

Errors in geography

There are no mountains the size or scale of those shown in the film in Southwestern New Mexico, the purported setting of the film.

Plot holes

The main driver of the plot for the entire film is the $5000 reward offered for the return of Mrs. Lowe to her husband. Yet upon her return, Cody leaves immediately and none of the characters makes any mention of the reward whatsoever.

Character error

Mrs. Lowe, contemptuously refers to Cody as being a "Comanchero." The real "Comancheros" were native New Mexico traders who dealt with the Comanche tribes in the late 1700s and 1800s. Comancheros also ransomed captives and this was probably Mrs. Lowe's reference rather than Cody's ethnicity.
