Plot Summary

The officers and the boys of the full-rigged Oslo school-ship 'S.S. Christian Radich' are the cast, and participating seen-artists include Arthur Fiedler and members of the Boston Pops Orchestra; Wilbur de Paris and his New Orleans Jazz Band; and Pablo Casals. 50 Norwegian young boys set sail on the training ship, 'Christian Radich' to learn the art of sailing and seamanship. They learn to know, depend upon and trust each other during their various ports-of-call. They visit Madeira, where a Portugese festival is attended; plus Willemstad, Curacao, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. And Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and New York City. In Boston, one of the boys gets a chance to perform with Arthur Fieldler and the Boston Pops Orchestra, and hear, in New Orleans, Wilbur de Paris and His New Orleans Jazz Band perform. The ship has a rendezvous with a U.S. Navy task force before returning home to Oslo, Norway. Written by Les Adams

Trivia The ship, the Sk/S Christian Radich, is home-ported in Oslo and still sails as of 2019. It is possible to book passage on board and in some cases take part in daily shipboard operations as part of a 'trainee' crew similar to that which was shown in the film. See more »
