When Tony Curtis is about to face down Aella, he drives his sword into a Briton, which comes back up into shot covered in blood. Immediately afterwards he charges into the tower, but his sword is clean.
When Einar climbs the tower towards the end, the blood on the end of his sword appears and disappears from shot to shot.
As Einar climbs the second drawbridge, an English soldier drops rocks at him. The soldier is hit by an arrow in the neck, supposedly from a Viking archer in front of him, but the arrowhead exits his throat as if he was hit from behind.
Towards the end, when Einar climbs the tower to get to Morgana. One of the metal 'flowers' on the back of his tunic is obviously missing. However in later shots, it is back in place again.
When the three Viking ships depart Norway to invade England, Ragnar's sunken ship is among them. When the ships arrive in England, Ragnar's ship has been replaced with another.
Kitala explains that the magnetised metal fish will always point North. However, in the sailing sequences the fish is always pointing in a straight line from the stern to the bow of the boats. In these scenes the boats are sailing South or South-West towards England, therefore the fish would in reality be pointing in the opposite direction.
Vikings did not wear horned helmets.
Helga's name would be "Helga Nilsdatter,", not " Helga Nilsson".
When Erik rescues Morgana and her maid they get into a rowboat with the two men near the bow and the two women in front of them. There is even a whole sequence when Erik rips the back of Morgana's dress open. In the next scene they have switched positions and the women are near the bow of the boat with the men in front of them. But that scene is later in the story, after Einar has gathered his vikings to chase the escapees.
As the Vikings reach England they unload a number of large and seemingly heavy wheels. One of the poles they are being carried to shore on breaks from the strain, and momentarily the wheel floats high on the top of the water, revealing it to be made of something light like cork or polystyrene.
When Einar (Kirk Douglas) boards the ship he has captured he lifts up Morgana's (Janet Leigh) maidservant Bridget (Dandy Nichols) and throws her into the arms of a fellow viking it is clearly a stunt double and not Nichols being thrown.
When Odin's wind rises to drive the tide out, thus saving Eric's life, The scene switched from the tidal pool to the inside of the great hall as the doors slam open from the high wind. When the doors blow open you can see the wall and doorway they are attached to shaking because, unlike a real building, there is no structural support above the door frame to stiffen it.
During the attack on the castle some vikings run/slide down an embankment to fight a line of soldiers stood waiting on them. You can clearly see that the soldier's swords are made of rubber as the blades bend and wobble as they are being waved around.
When Einar gets into the rowboat to take Morgana, he did not untie the boat. A rope can clearly be seen still tied to the dock.
During the fight scene at the end of the film, at one point, you can see the swords being used are actually rubber as one can clearly be seen bending.
A Norman-style stone castle is featured in England, though the film is set before the Norman Conquest of 1066.
Morgana travels to Aella's court in a boat that resembles a Portuguese caravel, or a Genoan "caracca". Boats of these kinds were still to be invented when the action takes place.
Father Godwin wears a tunic that identifies him as a Franciscan friar; yet, St. Francis lived more than three centuries after Norse invasions to Northumbria, and Franciscans by that time were not yet existing. Moreover, the brown tunic was adopted by Franciscans several centuries later, their clothing being gray in the first centuries of their history.
The chapel at the castle features Byzantine style renderings of Jesus and other Christian figures. In England of this period, religious iconography would be of a Celtic nature, not of a style associated with the Eastern Roman Empire.
When Einar throws his head back and shouts "Odin" at the end, you can see his modern gold crowns on his right molars.
When Ragnar and Einar are celebrating the capture of Morgana, Ragnar is heard to say 'What a son'. This line is re-used from the earlier hatchet throwing scene.
In the early scene where the viking ship is first returning to the village a shot from the front of the viking boat (from the camera boat in front) clearly reveals the camera boat's wake trailing behind - but in front of the viking ship.
The Viking men hated Eric and wanted him dead. However, when they walked around the corner of the tower to find their beloved king and leader dead they meekly took orders from the man who had just killed him. In reality Eric would have been instantly attacked by them.
As Einar returns home after kidnapping Morgana, the mic is visible in the lower left corner of the screen as Ragnar walks out to greet Einar (roughly 46 minutes into the movie).
