- Bugs discovers a Micronesian Film Documentary in "Cromagnonscope" showing Elmer Fuddstone and a sabertooth bunny in 10,000 BC.
- Bugs Bunny is fleeing from Elmer Fudd and his rifle yet again when he falls through the ground and into a cave. He is surprised, surmising that the cave belonged to Indians at one point. He discovers a large horn with cryptic writing on it. Bugs is unable to read it, but it translates to the viewer as "TIME CAPSULE CIRCA 10,000 B.C. TO BE OPENED 1960 A.D." Bugs yanks the cork off the horn, and discovers a film reel inside. Bugs decides to take the reel home and view it.
Bugs sets up his projector and rolls the film. As footage of prehistoric animals appears on screen, a narrator begins to speak. He announces that since other civilizations have died out, the film has been created "to preserve a record of our way of life". We then pan down to a cave, where a hunter named Elmer Fuddstone appears (bearing a very close resemblance to the modern Elmer Fudd) and announces he's hunting the Saber-Tooth Rabbit. The Saber-Tooth Rabbit appears next, jumping out of its hole and munching on a carrot. Bugs is surprised to see that aside from the longer teeth, the STR looks very similar to him. He wonders if the STR could be an ancestor of his, to which the STR responds, "Eh, could be."
Prehistoric Elmer attempts unsuccessfully to catch the STR, who finally confronts him and offers to help Elmer catch him. He explains that some day in the future, gunpowder would be invented, and the gun would follow shortly afterward. An excited Elmer thanks the STR and runs to his cave to work on a gunpowder formula.
It is not long before Elmer manages to concoct and successfully test the first gunpowder, which is as explosive as one would expect. The STR then goes off to invent the gun, finding a bamboo pole to use for a barrel, and a tree root for a stock. He pours gunpowder and pebbles into the new rifle, and lights the fuse. Elmer takes the rifle and points it at the STR, preparing to shoot him. However, the STR tells Elmer the stock is on the wrong end, and he switches it. The result is that the rifle ends up going off in Elmer's face.
Back in the present, Bugs surmises, "Those smart hunters are never no match for us dumb rabbits." Modern Elmer suddenly appears, saying, "That's what you think, wabbit!" and takes aim with his rifle. However, he too is holding the rifle the wrong way, and the rifle goes off in his face again. Bugs simply remarks, "That's what I think!" as we iris out.
