Immy Schnell's shining hour
jandewitt18 July 2004
'Nachschwester Ingeborg' turned out to be the surprise hit of 1958, outgrossing many production that cost twice as much. The films seemed to promise a great future for its charming star, Edith Nordberg, neé Immy Schell, Maria's and Maximilian's much more talented sister. But she fooled everybody and retired some times later.

The pic tells the oh-so-sad story of night nurse Ingeborg, who suffers a lot in this first class tear-jerker. Barbara Stanwyck played a night nurse some 25 years earlier too, in a fast paced cheapie for WB but while Barbara was hard as nails and had to cope with Clark Gable in one of his earliest roles, her German counterpart Ingeborg is more of the passive kind. Always the good gal she smiles through tears and after many a teardrop she marries the handsome young doctor...Fade Out.
