Goofs

(at around 20 mins) A seaman is headed to make the key swap. As he heads toward the loading dock (distance shot), there is no shadow on the dock. A minute later, when he is on the loading dock making the swap with Jan, the loading dock is completely in the shade. Another moment later, the seaman leaves and re-crosses the railroad tracks. Again, there is no shadow on the loading dock. Obviously, the distance and closeup shots were done at two different times of the day.

When the crew brings Herbie's body and a ranting Stanley down the ship's ramp, Jan is standing on Eddie's right between the open rear doors of the ambulance. In the immediate closeup shot when the crew member tells Eddie he can take his pick "a dead one or a raving one", she is standing on Eddie's left and to the left of the ambulance doors.

The courier meets Jan at the docks to hand over the key and map of the ship and receive his pay. He opens the envelope and thumbs through the cash underneath the flap of Jan's open purse. Yet, in the closeup he is thumbing the cash in front of Jan's trench coat. Additionally, Jan is wearing a light-weight trench, but in that closeup behind the cash envelope, it is an insert of a very thick woolly coat.

At the bar, Herbie pushes away his empty glass twice between shots.

According to Fay's calendar the ship arrived on Saturday, March 12. But March 12 was on a Tuesday in 1957, the year the film was released. The closest previous year that had March 12 on a Saturday was 1955.

When Eddie is driving the ambulance and almost hits a car, the huge sign on a Rexall Owl Drug store is backwards, indicating the film has been flipped for some reason.

In the beginning of the film, when the freighter rescues the man in a lifeboat . . . when they get him on board, his hair is neatly combed with a part. Highly unlikely for someone who has been "lost at sea" for some time.
