Early on, Marylee's initials on the door of her roadster are "MLH", but later in closeup become "MH".

(at around 26 mins) Mitch enters the Hadley offices with a yellow pencil behind ear, but when he begins doodling while talking to Jasper Hadley, he pulls a red pencil from behind his ear and uses it.

Lucy's lipstick color changes three times when she first meets Kyle, from orange-red in the office to coral in the taxi and pink-red in the airplane.

At the climax, when Kyle is shown recklessly driving his car back to the family house, a white handkerchief can be seen in his jacket's breast pocket. When he arrives at the house and exits the car, the handkerchief is gone.

When Marylee insinuates that Lucy is having an affair, Kyle slaps her. However, Marylee begins to flinch before Kyle raises his hand.

Marylee drives in a straight road in the petroleum area, but she nevertheless turns the wheel all the time.

When Marylee visits the tree where she and Mitch carved their initials in a heart more than a dozen years before, the carving is as crisp and neat as if it had just been made.

In the opening credits, Kyle shatters a whiskey bottle against the wall (above the window height). In a later reenactment of the same scene, Kyle's bottle toss hits the ground (directly in front of the windows).

The shadow of the camera is visible in the window frame showing the party.

In a few shots over the shoulders of Jasper and Lucy Hadley in Jasper's office, smudge pots can be seen outside the windows making the smoke in the "oilfields" outside.

Although set in Texas, all cars in the film have visible California plates.
