Henry Jones, Nancy Kelly, and Patty McCormack in The Bad Seed (1956)

Goofs

The Bad Seed

Edit

Continuity

Throughout the scene where Rhoda tells Monica why she has metal pieces on the heels of her shoes, both of Rhoda's ponytails are in front of her in the back shots, but one is behind her in the front shots. Then, in the middle of her rant about the gold medal, both ponytails are suddenly in front of her despite her arms resting on the sofa arm the whole time.
When Leroy is telling Rhoda that blood can't be washed off of a stick, in the shot taken facing Rhoda she is leaning on the table with both hands, but as soon it switches to a shot from her right side, she's standing upright with her arms bent.
When Christine is reading a book to Rhoda, you can clearly see the cover and the title "Inside the Castle Wall". Later, after Rhoda has fallen asleep and Christine closes the book, you can see a gold (or silver) disk on the cover which wasn't there before.
Shortly before Richard Bravo enters, Mrs. Penmark fixes Mr. Tasker a gin and tonic. Tasker takes the drink with his right hand, but when the shot changes slightly, he's suddenly holding the drink with his left hand and leaning on the cart with his right.
At the end of the arbor scene, as Rhoda's mother is calling her, in the shot taken from inside the arbor the pile of excelsior is almost entirely on the lawn, but in the reverse shot showing it from Christine's perspective through the window, the excelsior is on the dirt or paved area next to the lawn.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

There were no pockets in Rhoda's dress to hide the medal in when she came home from the picnic. *She could have tucked the medal into her sock or shoe. Rhoda is smart, and probably wouldn't have put the medal in a pocket anyway, in case of the remote possibility that someone might decide to search her.*

Revealing mistakes

Rhoda's is wearing her rain hat backwards. The longer brim is supposed to be worn to the back.

Miscellaneous

When Leroy goes down to the incinerator after talking to Rhoda, and opens the incinerator, he goes to a lot of trouble not to be burned by the metal doors. But when he gets the doors open after that, he just reaches right in and grabs the soles of the shoes right out of the apparently hot incinerator.

Crew or equipment visible

When Christine scolds Rhoda for asking for a garnet as well as a turquoise, the reflection of someone, probably Mervyn LeRoy, sitting in a chair with his legs crossed is visible in the coffee pot. Addition: Just to the left of the reflection that is assumed to be LeRoy you can see other crew members moving in the shadow of the door frame reflected in the coffee pot.
During Mrs. Daigle's second visit, when Mr. Daigle comes to the door, there is the shadow of a crew or cast member just over the steps.

Plot holes

Christine plans dinner for Tasker. She gets word from Bravo that he is coming to town that same evening, maybe even in time for dinner. Christine sends Rhoda to Monica's because the adults expect to eat late, past Rhoda's dinner time. Tasker ends up leaving, after meeting with Christine. However, there is no mention of dinner or why he leaves before eating.
After the first death takes place, Cristine makes a statement that Rhoda had never seen death. However, she had seen death a few years before.

Boom mic visible
