Jack Palance and Shelley Winters in I Died a Thousand Times (1955)

Goofs

I Died a Thousand Times

Edit

Continuity

Near the end, when the cops are chasing Roy Earle in their cars and motorcycles to the mountains, the following mistakes can be seen:
  • As the two motorbike cops approach a bridge, before crossing, one of them comes off his bike, parts of the bike can be seen flying, as indeed does the cop.
  • In the next shot, they all are chasing Earle's car as if nothing happened.
  • Later, as they approach a slippery bend, a cop again comes off his motorcycle, blocking the chase. Seconds later they are all seen still chasing the villain.
The vestibule entrance to the hotel is completely different in shots of it from outside and inside the hotel.
After Doc Banton examines Velma, she jumps into Roy's arms. As Doc watches from the doorway behind them, he puts his arms behind his back, then does it again in the closeup.

Factual errors

Velma tells Roy that the bright blue star is Jupiter. Jupiter is not a star, it is a planet and it does not look blue, it is a pale yellowish orange.
Velma tells Roy that a twinkling star is Venus. Venus is a planet, not a star, and it does not twinkle, it is a steady bright white light in the sky, the second brightest object after the Moon in the night sky.

Revealing mistakes

As Roy Earle abandons his car and makes his way up into the mountains through the snow, there are footprints, nearer to the camera, of someone who appears to have made a similar climb.
There is no glass in the window in the door of Roy's cabin. This is most noticeable when Red leaves after the first meeting and was probably done to avoid reflections that were problematic.
On the masthead of the "Denver Daily News" newspaper, there is no date. There is a volume number, but no edition/issue number either.
Roy is shot and goes to see his doctor friend. Roy is patched him and he gets up and walks away from the camera. In the back of his shirt is a small bloodstain, but no hole. Roy then turns around and though there is an even smaller bloodstain in the front of his shirt there is no bullet hole there either. If a bullet had passed through him, it would have left a hole in both sides of Roy and both sides of his shirt.
Roy is shot and goes to see a doctor friend. After his is patched up, Roy gets up and walks away from the camera. On the back of his shirt there is a small bloodstain. Roy then turns around and there is an even smaller blood stain in his front. Had Roy been shot in the abdomen, he would have bled fairly substantially, and his shirt would have been soaked with his blood.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

During the hotel robbery there is an employee holding a tray with an ice bucket and empty glasses. The sound of the glasses jingling together is heard, but the glasses themselves are not moving.

Plot holes

During the robbery, the thieves drill the lock out of a box then for no logical reason start using a hammer and chisel on the rest of the boxes even though the drill worked perfectly well. No thief would abandon a quiet and successful method to use a slower and noisier method.

Character error

After the dog Pard was chasing Roy and Marie's car for a good while, Roy stops the car to let Pard in, and he is seen to be breathing normally. After a chase like that a dog would be panting.
