Summaries

  • When a U.S. Air Force base commander receives civilian complaints about noise, he gets help from old friend Jack Webb in educating the town leaders and residents about the importance of their work and learning to accept their presence.
  • Jack Webb, researching background information for a case to be featured on his TV show, arrives at a U.S. Air Force base looking to get a feel for Air Force lingo. The base commander is embroiled in a contretemps with the citizens of a nearby town who object to the noise of the base's jets. But when the Air Force helps the mayor out of a jam, all is forgiven.—Jim Beaver <jumblejim@prodigy.net>
  • Jack Webb visits a California Air Force base and learns the important role they play in defending the nation. The nearby townsfolk however don't appreciate the noise from the fighter jets however and the local mayor flies to Washington to lodge his complaint. On his return flight in severe weather however, it's the Air Force that rescues him. The mayor then sets out to convince others to accept the new base.—garykmcd
  • Jack Webb has scheduled a meeting with Col. Jim Breech at Millville, a temporary Air Force base in California, to do some research for a film project. Beyond his research, Webb learns from the Colonel about the important work conducted at the base, including 24-hour air patrols to protect the American populace in general, but that they are receiving complaints from many of the locals for the excessive noise by the flyovers. Webb is able to experience that noise first hand by taking a flight with Breech, who takes the complaints seriously, and who vows to make changes to their flight paths to avoid areas that would be negatively affected by the noise. These changes are not enough to satisfy Millville Mayor Hogan and some of the town leaders who plan to travel to Washington, DC to request that the base be moved away from Millville despite Breech's assertion of the strategic importance of Millville as the base location, which he wants to make permanent. The two sides may be able to come to an understanding about what is best for society as a whole in this matter.—Huggo
