When Johnny and Troy have their conversation from opposite sides of her door, the security chain on it is much too long - it's handy for them to have the conversation while both being visible on camera, but would be useless for security.
The central proposal is that Johnny was to be responsible for a theft of USD250,000 from the bank he worked at. That would be several million USD in 21st-century money, which is an insane sum - a cash theft of that size, by a single person, is - literally - incredible.
