The medic and Corporal Denno attempt to go through an enemy mine field standing up, whilst slowly feeling ahead for mines with their feet. This would be suicide, since stepping on a hidden mine would cause it to explode. The correct method is for troops to lie prone and carefully probe the ground in front of them at an angle, using a bayonet, rod, or other implement.
A lieutenant orders a soldier who is planting land mines to dig them in deep. Doing this would make them useless; mines need to be planted as close to the surface as possible in order for their detonators to be activated by either a vehicle or a soldier's weight (depending on the type of mine).
The use of an exclamation point after the words "Fixed Bayonets!" in the title implies that those words are the command shouted at infantrymen. In fact, the words "fixed bayonets" simply describe the bayonets' having been placed on their respective rifles, after the fact. The command shouted at the troops to get the bayonets mounted on their rifles would be "Fix Bayonets!" - without the "ed" at the end of "Fix".
It would be highly improvable that the platoon would not be left without a truck to escape. The .50 cal machine gun alone weighs over 100 lbs. plus ammo and the mortar. No to mention the wounded.
At the initial briefing in division headquarters, the 2-star general and the colonels are all wearing rank insignia. In actuality, officers did not wear their insignia on the front lines, since doing so would identify the officers as choice targets for the enemy.
The movie takes place in Korea during the winter, with freezing temperatures, but the soldiers' breath is never exposed to the cold air, confirming that the film's entire outside shooting was studio bound.
Although most of the scenes in the platoon's cave dwelling are well lit, there are no fires, candles, or other light sources visible.
Whilst enemy medics are evacuating their dead and wounded from a road, the leader of the American platoon only a few yards away shouts orders to his troops - yet the enemy soldiers don't hear him.
Most of the movie appears to be filmed on a large stage, with murals of mountains in the background for effect. This is apparent by the movie's closed-in acoustic sounds, inconsistent shadows, no moving clouds, and no movement of bushes or tree leaves, even when wind can be heard.
When the U.S. soldiers are trapped in the cave, enemy soldiers begin to fire into the entrance. One shoots several times before any sounds of rifle shots are heard.
When Cpl. Denno is carrying Lt. Gibbs through the minefield, the Lt. is yapping away, but there is no voice audible.
When Sgt Rock is running out the cave and down the hill to stab the Red soldier, the shadow of the camera crane following him can be seen on the snow.
