Kathleen Byron, David Farrar, and Jack Hawkins in The Small Back Room (1949)

Goofs

The Small Back Room

Edit

Factual errors

David Farrar has a very special of scotch in his flat, which he claims he will open on V Day, later known as VE Day, for Victory in Europe Day.
The film is set in 1943 but Susan tells Sammy that it's Tuesday the 23rd of May. The 23rd didn't fall on a Tuesday in 1943, although it did in 1939 and 1944.
The British use the word torch, not flashlight.

Miscellaneous

Spelling mistake at 2h 2m in - On Sammy's return to the office after defusing the bomb he passes a notice at the bottom of the stairs that says," ALL PASSES MUST BE SHEWN" "Shewn" is an archaic form of "shown" or "showed" and was in common usage in England until the 1920s. However, its use on public notices continued well beyond that time. It has even appeared on packaging for a 1950s t.v. merchandising child's nurses uniform ; "as shewn on t.v."

Anachronisms

Some of the music played at the Hickory Tree is of a style of jazz called bebop. Bebop originated in the United States, and had not evolved to that point in the U.S. by the early forties, and thus would not have been heard in Britain in 1943, the setting of this movie.

Boom mic visible

A little over 75 minutes into the film, during the scene where the character of Sammy Rice trashes his sitting room, the shadow of the boom mic can be seen reflected in the empty picture frame in the foreground of the shot.

Character error

The ATS corporal mentions the Pavilion End at Wembley. There was no such end.
