Goofs

The Loves of Carmen

Edit

Continuity

Inside the Lilas Partia's, when Pablo squeezes Carmen's skirt pocket to check if she has more hidden money, her right arm is hanging. Next shot her right arm is folded.
When Carmen is holding a hot chicken leg and talking to Don Jose, the chicken leg inverts between shots.
When the carriage arrives at the Colonel's party, Don Jose is walking to the opposite side. In the next shot, when the passengers step down, Don Jose is stopped and turned to the other side.
After Don Jose helps Carmen down from the wall, several oranges fall near her feet. The next shot shows him grabbing the oranges scattered a little way from her feet.

Factual errors

Carmen and many other lower class women wear high heeled shoes, a type of footwear that in the Spain of the 1820s was worn only by upper and middle class women. A gypsy such as Carmen was more likely to wear abarcas and other types of slippers, or else go barefoot.

Revealing mistakes

In mid-film, Carmen and Don Jose have a nighttime scene in the mountain pass hideaway. The sky in back of them - a canvas painting - is wrinkled.
