Although it is thought by some that J.D. Salinger got the name for his hero Holden Caulfield in "The Catcher in the Rye" when he saw a marquee for this film, starring William Holden and Joan Caulfield, Salinger's first Holden Caulfield story, "I'm Crazy", appeared in Collier's on December 22, 1945, a year and a half before this movie came out.
Although the film states that the action takes place in a suburb of New York, the Broadway production explicitly pinpoints the location as Kew Gardens in Queens.
Early in the movie, Ruth (Joan Caulfield) is annoyed that Albert (Billy De Wolfe) wants to force her to quit smoking and she doesn't want to. Later in the film Albert starts smoking in order to try and keep from losing her. Both actors died of lung cancer in their late 60s.
The headline on the newspaper Mrs. Teaker holds holds at the beginning of the film reads "Nazis Routed at Caen". This refers to the town in Normandy, France and its liberation by British and Canadian forces on July 9, 1944.
