When the Oscars roll around on March 2 one of the winners we could possibly have another film centered around the Holocaust taking home an Oscar prize. The Lady in Number 6, currently up for Documentary Short, has been making some waves and announced itself as one of the frontrunners for the Oscar.
Looking over the history of the Academy, films that cover WWII or the Holocaust are like catnip to Oscar voters. Almost an eigth of the films awarded Best Picture have dealt in some way with that period in history and many more have won major awards. Think about how The Pianist almost upset Chicago in 2002 or Schindler’s List‘s dominated awards run in 1993 and one can see that when a movie with this subject matter is good that awards usually follow.
