No blues on this ranch.

Warning: Spoilers
Another snazzy light-hearted Columbia B musical with some great songs, plenty of silliness and good performances buy some dependable character players. The always lovable Guy Kibbee plays in ancient ranch hand who works for Al Bridge and trying to keep it secret that he has claimed for years to daughter Jeff Donnell (who lives on the east coast) . Out of the blue, she decides to pay him a visit, now engaged to the wealthy Mark Roberts who has a snooty mother, Isabel Randolph, so everything he's lied about is threatened to be exposed. It's obvious that Donnell will see through Roberts and find romance with ranch employee Ken Curtis. Ironically, Donnell and Roberts would be reunited years later on "General Hospital" where Donnell spent years as the Quartermain housekeeper Stella and Roberts played Emma Samms' father.

Looking quite different thanks to a long beard (which he shaves in addition to that thin mustache), Bridge is recognizable immediately through that snarky voice, although his line delivery is quite unique as compared to normal. His part of the pilot line has him being constantly disguised because he thinks there are bandits on his trail and must hide his identity which allows Kibbee's scheme to work. This is very much like an extended Columbia comedy short with songs added, so there's lots of farce and wacky characters including Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, Peg La Centra (as the wisecracking switchboard operator) and Dick Elliott. Musical numbers by such groups as the Deuce Spriggins' Band and the Hoosier Hotshots threatened to put my feet in a permanent toe-tapping mode.
