Barbara Stanwyck, Sydney Greenstreet, and Dennis Morgan in Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

Goofs

Christmas in Connecticut

Edit

Continuity

Lane is practicing flipping flapjacks in the kitchen with Felix. She throws one that sticks on the ceiling and leaves gooey batter when it falls. On the very next flip, the ceiling is clean.
In the Dec issue of Smart Housekeeping, the Christmas menu lists roasted duck. However when she's speaking with Mr Yardley he talks about it, he mentions roast goose.
When Felix flips the first flapjack we see it fly to the left side of the screen. Felix then reaches to the right side of the screen to catch it.
The events at the farm take place on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the day after Christmas, but the gifts under the tree can be seen sitting there unopened the entire time.

Factual errors

Yardley & John Sloan's are at the bar on Christmas Eve having a discussion about Betty Kane's baby. If Yardley knows she's pregnant because it was announced in the rival American Housekeeping magazine, then she would already be at least 2 months pregnant (time lay between her finding out plus publishing issue lags of at least a month), her baby would be due in June or July at the latest. Yardley tells Sloane the baby is due in September, which would be impossible.
Whooping cough is very contagious and adults as well as children can get it.
While waiting for Elizabeth to return from Yardley's estate on Long Island, Dudley tells John she's at Grand Central Station. First of all, any New Yorker knows it's called Grand Central Terminal. Second, trains from Long Island come in to Manhattan at rival Pennsylvania Station.
When Dennis Morgan places the diaper, he places the point of the triangle at the baby's back. Point should have been pointing to baby's feet.
Orange juice is listed as an appetizer at Felix's Restaurant. Not a chance.

Revealing mistakes

Felix walks into the bedroom and as he reaches for the door knob the stage lighting cast two prominent shadows of him.
The third pancake that Elizabeth (Barbara Stanwyck) flips is already done, but it comes down uncooked on one side in Felix''s (S.Z. Sakall) hand.

Miscellaneous

During the square dance, while everyone is reeling through the different partners, John Sloane executes a fancy leaping step as he takes Liz's arm and she stumbles as she tries not to laugh at his antics.
When the sleigh arrives at the house and the scene shift to Elizabeth and her party disembarking, it can be clearly seen that the sleigh has only moved about four feet, as the "snow" behind the tracks is smooth.
Uncle Felix enters Nora's kitchen to find Irish stew on the stove. He then finds a large can labeled "paprika" on the shelf above it. Sprinkling some in the pot, he then pronounces it to now be goulash. Nora, an Irishwoman, would have no use for paprika- much less leaving it readily available in the kitchen.

Crew or equipment visible

Right after Sloan calls the judge and orders everyone to bed early a long shadow moves across the floor.
When Dudley visits Elizabeth's apartment, shadow of boom microphone can be seen flitting about in mirror over her head.

Errors in geography

Less than 30 minutes into the film, the camera focuses on the restaurant's menu, with an address of 325 46 St. New York City's streets are either east or west.

Plot holes

When Elizabeth is trying to discourage Yardley from visiting her farm, she tells him that the baby has whooping cough. Later when Yardley visits, the baby obviously isn't coughing, but nobody mentions or explains his seeming recovery.

Character error

During the square dance, right after the announcer says to do the "star" formation, Yardley accidentally strikes a female dancer in the face with his hand (neck and chin area) while struggling to turn his big body around. The lady is momentarily knocked backward in a whiplash motion but maintains her poise and smile throughout.
