A routine theater projector is used to project a Cab Calloway short subject on a New York City billboard several blocks away. Because of the focus and intensity of light required, this would be an impossibility anywhere, let alone in a well-lit area like Times Square.
The opening scene shows Eleanor Powell dancing behind a giant magnifying glass. A real lens of that size would focus the stage lights onto the dancer's body and burn her to a crisp.
