Titanic (1943)

Goofs

Titanic

Edit

Continuity

When Petersen is taking the little girl on his arms from the ship, he's wearing his complete uniform, including the jacket. But when he's swimming in the sea the the lifesaving boat and has the girl on his shoulders, he's not wearing the jacket, until the court scene.
The engine room telegraph dial is shown to be written in English with white letters on a dark background first, but later it is in German with black letters on a white background.
Early in the movie, the three crewmen commenting on the rich people coming down the grand staircase switch places between shots.

Factual errors

It is stated in the movie that the Titanic was the fastest liner in the world, and that she was traveling at 26 1/2 knots near the beginning of the voyage. The Titanic could only travel at 23 knots, and she never traveled at her top speed before her sinking. Besides this, the RMS Mauretania was capable of 27 knots, so 26 1/2 wouldn't have been enough to beat her.
White Star Line had given up trying to get the Blue Ribbion.
The telegrams do not show the actual White Star Line logo.
When Petersen is writing the logbook, the tour is named as 'Liverpool-New York'. But in fact, the voyage of the Titanic started in Southampton, not in Liverpool.
Madeleine Astor was 18 years old to John Jacob Astor's 54, brunette and pregnant, not the older blonde portrayed in the film.

Revealing mistakes

The English -language newspapers shown have their opening quotation marks displayed in the German style, at the bottom of the letters, rather than at the top. The closing quotation marks are displayed at the top of the line, common to both German and English styles.

Anachronisms

The New York Herald and the New York Tribune did not merge into the Herald-Tribune until 1924.

Errors in geography

On the exchange market chart board in the second scene in the movie, all the share market company names are written in English, but the name of the "White Star Line" on the big board in the middle is written in German "White Star Linie", as it's named in the movie all the time.
