- U.S. Marshal Tex Martin (Tex Ritter), searching for Wild Bill Hickok (Bill Elliott), who has been falsely accused of murder, tumbles across the outlaw camp of Bull McQuade (Noan Beery) who advocates slavery in Kansas. Hickok, hiding in the McQuade camp, is surrendered by the renegade, who wants no trouble with the federal government. Prisoners of McQuade include Doc Willoughby (Joel Friedkin), his daughter Ella (Eileen O'Hearn) and his servant Cannonball (Frank Mitchell.) Willoughby heads the Frontier Emigrant Aid Society and McQuade is trying to wrest from him the names of his co-workers. Cannonball rescues Hickok, and hides with him in the mountains. Tex, disarmed, heads back to McQuade's camp, still not believing Hickok's story about the other prisoners. Myra escapes and hides in a deserted shack, but she is trailed by Howland (Edmund Cobb), a McQuade henchman. Ella (Ruth Ford), McQuade's girl, confirms Hickok's story to Tex and gives him a gun. He immediately goes after Hickok, following the trail of McQuade's henchmen, who are also hunting the famed gunman. Tex runs across Howland, who is about to shoot Myra, and wounds him after a terrific battle. Myra and Tex head for the cave in which Hickok and Cannonball are hiding. When McQuade and his men discover the wounded Howland, they set out in swift pursuit.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
