A wire can be seen attached to the speech papers. The papers are supposed to be blown away by an electric fan.
When Johnny Smith stumbles out of the Club Inferno, he's shown with a letter 'S' on his sweater denoting his team from Spring Valley. As he continues into the street and stops short of getting hit by a car, the letter 'S' is reversed, and then when he collapses under the lamp post as lightning strikes it, the letter 'S' is normal again.
