Pleasant Early Toto Vehicle
lchadbou-326-265923 January 2021
Scholars and critics seem to agree that the early films of that great Italian comedian Toto basically rely on tropes he had developed as a Neapolitan stage personality and that a specific filmic style for him wasn't really developed by him and his collaborators until several years after WWII. Nonetheless this wartime vehicle offers amusing gags and shtick as he plays not one, not two, but there different parts as look alike rivals for an inheritance that causes intense arguments in a family. The film is practically a musical as there are six singing and dancing scenes including some with a standout trio of young ladies who harmonize in a style similar to the then popular Andrews Sisters in the US, but in Italian, they are charming and almost steal the picture away from Toto.
