Myrna Loy and Melvyn Douglas in Third Finger, Left Hand (1940)

Goofs

Third Finger, Left Hand

Edit

Continuity

When Jeff Thompson appears, he is holding some neckties in his left hand as he is talking to a member of the ship's crew. When he turns around in the next shot, he is seen placing an oil painting down with several others. The neckties disappeared, and in their place a painting materialized.
(at about 26 mins) The Harper's Bazaar magazine that Margot is holding while talking to Burton changes between edits from the August 1937 issue to the September 15, 1938 issue.

Factual errors

If Margot had met Tony in Rio in April, it wouldn't have been in the spring. Seasons in the southern hemisphere are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. It would have been fall.

Revealing mistakes

The title of the film is a misnomer. In an early scene, Margot Merrick (Myrna Loy) is shown removing her phony wedding ring from the ring finger of her left hand.

Miscellaneous

The neon sign over the gaming establishment is Play Palace, but the sign painted on the glass over the front door is Play Place, both identifications appearing in the same shot at the same time. It also was used the previous year in another Myrna Loy film, Lucky Night (1939).
