The character of the rich Dr. Helen Jackson (played by Laura Bowman) is inspired by real-life millionaire miser Hettie Green(1834-1916)
The title is a take-off on the notorious film Ingagi (1930) that was made nearly a decade earlier. This is believed to be the only horror film with, what was then called, an "all colored cast."
Dr Jackson calls her assistant "N'Gina", a name which means "One who serves" in the Kikuyu language spoken in Kenya.
Working title: "House of Horror"
The $5 that the doctor paid her attorney to write her will in this 1940 film is equivalent to $95.38 in 2021 dollars.
