Drama set just prior to WWII

Pat O'Brien and Constance Bennett are among 15 passengers aboard a freighter traveling from England to the U.S.A. During the trip England enters the war and when confronted by a German submarine the captain of the ship must decide whether to fight. The film is just okay. I rated it 5/10.

OK but forgettable war drama

In the scheme of civilians, not soldiers or sailors, against a German submarine during WW2, I will prefer MURPHY'S WAR of course. This very movie looks more like a propaganda feature than anything else. This is however a pretty good programmer especially pulled by John Brahm, more known for films such as THE LODGER or HANGOVER SQUARE. Good characters depiction and study, the passengers I mean. Good behaviour orchestra in a specific situation, a tragic one, that's the main interest of this grade B war drama. Of course there will be a traitor among the crew, as i any war drama from this period; this makes it more than predictable.
