Cross Country Detours (1940)

Goofs

Cross Country Detours

Edit

Factual errors

The production year is shown as MCMXXXX, but the correct Roman numerals for 1940 are MCMXL.

Errors in geography

The narrator states "In the desert wastes of New Mexico..." while showing saguaro cactus. BUT saguaros do not grow in New Mexico. They grow ONLY in the Sonoran Desert, which is in southern Arizona and northern Mexico.
The narrator states "In the desert wastes of New Mexico...", shows a dog running along a road with a sign that says California is 1098 miles away. BUT if one measures the distance of Tucumcari, New Mexico (which is in eastern New Mexico, close to the Texas state line, one of the furthest places in New Mexico from California) to Needles, California (which is next to the Colorado River and the California state line, the point in California which is closes to New Mexico) that distance is about 730 miles, far shorter than 1098 miles stated in the cartoon.
The narrator, when describing the Grand Canyon, states "The Colorado River winding it way endlessly through mountain gorges...". BUT the Colorado River does NOT flow through any mountains as it goes through the Grand Canyon. Rather, the Colorado River cut the Grand Canyon through an elevated plateau of flat lands (NOT mountains) and exposes flat stratification (NOT the twisted and up and down stratification of mountainous geography).
