The film is a parody of "Gone with the Wind" (1939), but transfers the setting from Georgia to Kentucky. It depicts Kentucky joining the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. Kentucky was actually a Union State during the War, though Kentucky soldiers joined both sides of the War. An estimated 125,000 Kentuckians served as Union soldiers, and another 35,000 Kentuckians served as Confederate soldiers.
Rarely seen on American television due to black slave stereotypes.
The film intentionally uses anachronisms for humorous effects, such as civilians owning radios during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Among other anachronisms, Paul Revere is depicted as still alive during the War. Paul Revere actually died in 1818, at the age of 83.
