Just as Alfalfa is about to go to a football practice with his team, his father speaks to him about the Ds across the board on his latest report card, those grades which Mr. Switzer laments will not get Alfalfa into college. Alfalfa, in turn, always just assumed his football prowess was enough for a successful college life. Mr. Switzer telling Alfalfa, "So, just suppose you were in college now," leads to a fantasy sequence of Alfalfa in college with his friends, it a little bit of what Alfalfa believes and a little bit of what Mr. Switzer believes.
