It's through cunning subterfuge that mobster Don "Red" Barry gets into the marines, getting another recruit drunk so he can steal his papers because his own fingerprints would reveal a criminal record. I guess they really didn't check IDs back in the late 1930's when new recruits arrived. His plan is to steal information on an air torpedo that his mob boss wants, and after creating lots of problems in basic training ends up on a ship where his actions creates disaster. But the military is smart, and the conscience is weak, so there's always a chance that Barry will either have a change of heart or be caught.

I found a lot of the details of this mob and military action film to be unbelievable, starting with how very gets ahold of papers to get into the Marines, and later all the damage he's allowed to cause. Helen Mack and Warren Hymer co-star, with.l George Chandler as the poor sap the mob manipulates, but who manages to escape from the ship he was planted on against his will. This is a convoluted, messy film with lots of implausiblies, but filled with enough action to keep the audience interested even if they're rolling their eyes as everything unfolds.
