Lacklustre Musical comedy

For some strange reason this is the only Hulbert/Courtneidge film that is unavailable on video.Alas it is not a long forgotten masterpiece. The story is as follows.Hulbert is swindled out of his money by con man Huth.So they have to sell up the family home.the butler,Frank Cellier, has saved a considerable amount and buys a hotel in the Dalmatians. He employs Hulbert as maitre d and Courtneidge as a hostess.Everything goes well but then Huth checks into the hotel.Neither Hulbert nor Huth met at their original dealings.the rest of the film is concerned with obtaining back from Huth the money he swindled out of them. The first half of the film,up to the time when Huth turns up at the hotel is quite good. There are 2 rather tuneful and well staged musical numbers.the second ,Lets Get Sentimental with Hulbert and Courtneidge is actually very good. However the second part is unfunny and dull.there is a rather strange performance from Frank Petingell who is either drunk or mad.Either way it is annoying.Hulbert is given full rein and alas resorts to his mugging and it is a chore to watch him.Thankfully though the film only lasts 69minutes.Incidentally although Robb Wilton is in the cast unfortunately he is only on screen for about 30 seconds. What a disappointment.
