- Young no-nonsense New York secretary Carol Blane (Jean Muir) works as a secretary for rich businessman Steven Garron (Addison Richards) in a high-rise building. Her roommate, Diane Ware (Beverly Roberts), a gold digger, thinks she should try to seduce her married boss, but she believes in true love. Instead she meets charming high-rise riveter Bart Kingdon (Warren Hull) and they marry. She quits her job and becomes his wife. At the same time, Bart's estranged father Dan Kingdon (Harry Davenport) reunites with his son after he suffers a stroke. Dying soon thereafter, he leaves his son a fortune along with his construction company. In the new company, Bart has to hire a new secretary and his wife suggests her friend, Diane. When Bart's wise Aunt Agatha (Clara Blandick) warns Carol that leaving her husband with an attractive secretary may lead to marital problems, she refuses to listen, certain of their love. But, Bart gradually spends longer and longer hours at work. When Bart leaves on a business trip to Maine, refuses his wife's offer of her company but takes along Diane, Carol begins to suspect something. She doesn't realize that Diane has used deception to force the weekend trip. Diane received a telegram telling Bart his business trip was not needed, but she kept this a secret. When Carol receives a phone call about this, she follows them to the remote hunting lodge to tell Bart. Carol confronts them as they embrace, but walks away. In the meantime, a forest fire begins to approach their location. During Bart and Diane's escape, he is knocked out. She abandons him and looks to rescue herself. But Carol turns her car around to rescue him, and all three survive the fire. Later after he recovers, Carol tells him she is leaving. Penitent, he says he has ended his relationship with Diane and says he always loved her alone. They are reconciled. But luckily, Bart's former spinster secretary returns from a failed marriage to ask for her old job back, which Bart is happy to oblige.
