The lead character Henry Glory pays his way through university by selling copies of his own novel door-to-door. This is a self-reference by director Oscar Micheaux, who supported himself much the same way when he was starting out as a writer.

Based on the infamous Leo Frank case of 1913. Oscar Micheaux had examined this subject 14 years earlier in The Gunsaulus Mystery (1921). It is interesting to note that, while this film sides with the Frank character, research suggests that Micheaux believed the real Leo Frank to have been guilty.
Andrew Bishop had acted for Oscar Micheaux several times, starting from as early as 1923, but this is their earliest surviving collaboration.
