One of over 700 Paramount Productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since. However, because of legal complications, this particular title was not included in the original television package and was not televised until many years later.
William Frawley also appeared as Gloomy Willie in the 1951 version of The Lemon Drop Kid (1951), starring Bob Hope.
A character, told that Lee Tracy is "good as gold," says, "Yeah? Well, I'm off the gold standard." The topic was much in the news at the time--Great Britain had left the gold standard in 1931, and the US had nationalized gold and devalued the dollar against it (though not leaving the gold standard entirely) in 1934, the year the movie came out.
