Joan Blondell, Hugh Herbert, Ruby Keeler, Guy Kibbee, Zasu Pitts, and Dick Powell in Dames (1934)

Goofs

Dames

Edit

Factual errors

In the opening credits Zasu Pitts' character's name is spelled Mathilda, but on the family tree, it's spelled Matilda. However, genealogists often find alternate name spellings in family histories.

Revealing mistakes

The scene on the Staten Island Ferry was obviously filmed on a soundstage against a screen, as there's no wind blowing.

Crew or equipment visible

While Joan Blondell is singing "The Girl at the Ironing Board", a stage hand is seen in the background hanging a clothesline.

Errors in geography

The Hemingway mansion is located at 420 W. 10th St, according to the invitation to the meeting of The Ounce Foundation for the Elevation of American Morals. 420 W. 10th St, if it existed, would be located in the Hudson River off Pier 45. The adjacent neighborhood is Christopher Street, in the West Village, an area not likely (then or now) to be sympathetic to moral "elevation". (The address shown on Horace's luggage tag, seen earlier on the train, is 420 E. 10th St.)
