The version I reviewed of The Mills Brothers' cartoon short When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba is unfortunately minus their live-action segment
This was the third-and final-cartoon/live-action short The Mills Brothers made for Max Fleischer for his Screen Songs series. The first animated part has a blimp (or as they were known at the time-airship) being flown in the sky as two clouds fight while another one "smokes" the airship for a few seconds while the brothers are warbling "Alexander's Ragtime Band". Then another cartoon segment has some cats operating an open railroad car which threatens to collide with a train running near it on the same track while those brothers are then singing "Loveless Love". Unfortunately, the live-action part where The Mills are performing the title song of this short was missing in the print I watched on YouTube in which the lyrics would be printed on screen while the Bouncing Ball would jump over the words as they sung them. So I watched a vocal performance of that by Buddy Hayes from "The Lawrence Welk Show", then heard audio versions by The Revelers and Rudy Vallee. It was written by Herman Hupfeld-the same composer who would eventually also write "As Time Goes By" which would became most famous for its use in the movie Casablanca. Okay, I liked what I saw of the cartoon short, so on that note, I recommend the version I watched of When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba.
