Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx, Thelma Todd, and The Marx Brothers in Horse Feathers (1932)

Horse Feathers

Edit

Continuity

After Huxley kicks an extra point following Pinky's touchdown, Darwin kicks off to Huxley.
Pinky and Baravelli are kneeling in the center of the section of floor they're sawing, but when they fall through into the football players' room, they fall well to the left and right of the section of floor.
In the classroom scene, Pinky is still dressed in the professor's clothes and beard when he pulls down the chart of the horse. But he's back to his regular costume a moment later when he puts up the poster of the woman.
During the "I'm against it" number, Wagstaff kicks a stack of papers off the desk, and they land on the floor. The papers can be seen on the desk in subsequent shots.
In the opening scene, Prof. Wagstaff suddenly appears between shots as he is introduced.

Factual errors

The commentary track on the 2016 DVD set states erroneously that the football game commentator is Walter Brennan. That role is actually played by Phil Tead. Brennan does not appear in this movie.

Revealing mistakes

Just before they board the garbage can chariot, Wagstaff, Baravelli, and Frank chase Pinky as he runs the wrong way down the football field (chasing a dog). It is clear in this shot that Baravelli is a stand-in. In the following shot, as they ride in the garbage can chariot, the stand-in hides behind the other actors.
One of the faculty members directly behind Wagstaff can be seen mouthing the words to the opening song.
Just before Prof. Wagstaff throws his guitar in the water after playing it for Connie, it changes to a cheap guitar that could easily get wet.

Miscellaneous

Various college football games from the 1920's were used as stock footage. Frame rates in 1932 were 24 frames per second. In the 1920s, the frame rate for silent films increased from around 16-18 frames per second (fps) to 20-26 fps. This when the stock footage was edited in, the footage runs at a much faster pace than what it should have.

Character error

The audio commentary over the first quarter of the football game refers to Darwin's fourth touchdown, but the score at the end of the first quarter is 12-0. The score for a touchdown is 6 points, as seen when Huxley scores their first. The commentator doesn't say four touchdowns, he says "Darwin just completed a forward pass for a top-down".
The professor describes oxygen entering the bloodstream through the respiratory system as "osmosis." It is actually called "diffusion."
