Samuel Goldwyn told the 23 April 1929 Los Angeles Times that Vilma Banky's voice and Hungarian accent were well-received, so he added more dialogue. However, the actress admitted in the June 1929 Picture Play that she needed to learn how to talk and act at the same time, citing the stationary microphone as a hindrance.
