Nothing special but does its job
TheLittleSongbird1 August 2012
I have definitely seen better shorts, but The Fox Chase is not bad at all. It is very short at just 5 minutes, perhaps a little too much so and the animation is rather primitive, but manages to pack in some interesting and amusing(if not really hilarious) action like the dogs honing in on the fox, on having his stomach used as a trampoline, Oswald getting separated from his horse(who looks like Horace Horsecollar somewhat), the dogs chasing the fox around the tree and the final sequence with the log and what looks like a skunk. The music has energy, and the characters are engaging. All in all, not much new and primitive but still amusing and likable stuff all the same that does its job reasonably. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Foxy Fox
Hitchcoc28 November 2018
In this fox hunting story, the real star of the show is the fox. While Oswald is bumbling around, trying to get his horse to cooperate, the fox is making fools out of all he hunters and their dogs. There are numerous sight gags and almost a surreal quality to this one. The animators were quite clever in bending the limits of reality.

What kind of a sick mind would think it would be "funny" . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . to tie the body of a supposedly living wiener dog in one big knot? Midway through THE FOX CHASE, this is exactly the type of torture the title character inflicts upon one of the pursuit canines. Surely this was terrifyingly frightening to half or more of the youngsters viewing this film when it was released. On the other hand, tykes being brought up in the Elephantine Tradition doubtless were "inspired" to comb their gated communities in quest of Real Life wiener dogs that they themselves could tie up in knots. How many dachshunds perished as a result of THE FOX CHASE?

Chasing Oswald.

Warning: Spoilers
With a poll being held om IMDbs Classic Film board for the best movies of 1928,I started to look around for Oswald movies to view, and I stumbled across one which appeared to be rather overlooked, which led to me getting ready to chase Oswald.

The plot:

Gathering up his pals,Oswald gets set to go on a hunt for a fox.As they set off on the hunt,Oswald and his friends soon discover that it is much harder to hunt down a fox than originally expected.

View on the film:

After having given the previous Oswald movies a good amount of background detail,Walt Disney surprisingly leaves everything bare, which leads to the title never getting the shot of energy that it desperately needs.Whilst leaving the background empty,Disney displays some bold moves with the character designs, thanks to Oswald being drawn as a cross between his original self and Mickey Mouse,as Oswald goes after the fox.
